Running has been a big part of my life since 1985 when I went out for Junior High Track! After giving about every other sport a try while growing up, I found my forte running. I ran cross country and track all four years while attending Fort Osage High School in Independence Missouri. My specialty was the 800 in track and with good range I was able to be successful in cross country as well. After graduating from the big F.O. I went on to attend college at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg Missouri. I was also a member of the Mules Cross Country and Track Teams all four years + one more:) At UCM my passion for running grew more and more and this passion grew into a strong desire to teach and coach. After graduating from UCM with my degree in Business Administration I went on to coach and teach in the Warrensburg R6 School District. I was also the Head Boys and Girls Cross Country and Assistant Track Coach from 1996 to 2004. Along with my coaching duties at WHS, I also continued to be a part of the UCM program (same town) as a volunteer coach working with the middle and distance runners. I really enjoyed coaching both high school and college runners throughout the year and being so involved with the sport. This led me to leave W.H.S. and UCM to pursue college coaching on a
full-time basis.
I had a great opportunity to start a new men's and women's cross country and track team at William Woods University, a small NAIA private school in Fulton Missouri. I spent four years at W.W.U. and then moved to Lakeland Florida where I was hired as the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track Coach at Florida Southern College, an NCAA DII School. I was at F.S.C. from 2008 until the summer of 2012. After almost 5 years of fun and sun in Florida and brief stints in NC and MO, I accepted a new position as the Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach at Northwood University in Midland Michigan. I spent 3.5 years at Northwood before moving closer to home and taking over as the Head XC and Track Coach at Drury University here in Springfield MO. I coached at Drury from December 2015 to May of 2019. My proudest moment at Drury was when our women's cross country program earned a top 20 USTFCCCA National Ranking in 2018. This after the team had placed 13th in the conference meet in 2014. I have truly enjoyed all of the places and student-athletes I have been blessed to coach each and every day.
I recently decided to quit coaching full time and to take a teaching position here in the Columbia Mo area. My passion for coaching and helping others train and reach their running goals will continue here on RUNWITHCOACH.
I hope my 30+ years of experience as an avid runner, will be beneficial in helping others like yourself reach new goals in this sport and venture into new ones! Running and staying fit can be a fun and rewarding lifestyle for those who make it a priority in their lives. I still run as much as I can and feel it helps me to remain healthy and keep the pounds off as I start the path down this hill of life. Even through all of the highs and lows of the hobby, I still have that passion and love for it!
